Big Ambitions Roadmap: What Comes After the 1.0 Release
Updated 2026-09-08 · Last verified 2026-09-08 · Steam Big Ambitions
Hovgaard Games has named three things for after the 1.0 release: more bug-fix patches, two free content updates, and a first paid DLC set in Shanghai. Not one of them has a date, and the studio has said in writing that its roadmap is not a list of promises. This page separates what has actually shipped from what is stated but undated, and from what players have invented, using the developer's own 100 Steam announcements as the source.
The only hard post-1.0 evidence of how fast anything moves is builds 3672 and 3674 on 1 September 2026, four days after launch. Everything beyond that is a stated intention.
The three post-1.0 statements, word for word
Three official posts touch the future of the game after 1.0. Quoting them exactly matters here, because the difference between "planning", "promising" and "will have" is the whole story.
| Date | Post | What it actually says |
|---|---|---|
| 4 Dec 2025 | Studio & Future Insights #4 | "we're also promising two additional free content updates after release"; first DLC switched from Costa Del Sol to Shanghai, China, "around $10"; on life after 1.0, "The honest answer is that we do not know yet" |
| 14 Aug 2026 | Full Release is TWO WEEKS AWAY (the 1.0 changelog) | "We are still planning more updates, content releases and eventually a couple DLCs"; and at the end, "We have a few more updates coming over the next several months and then after that, we will have our first DLC!" |
| 28 Aug 2026 | Big Ambitions 1.0 FULL RELEASE | "we appreciate your feedback as we move forward with patches, content updates, and DLC" |
Read together those give a sequence and no calendar: patches now, a few content updates over several months, then the first DLC. The December 2025 post is the only one that puts a number on anything, and both of its numbers are soft. "Two" free updates is a count, not a schedule, and "around $10" is a price intention written eight months before 1.0 existed.
One wording change is worth noting. In December 2025 the studio spoke of "our first DLC" in the singular. In August 2026 it wrote "a couple DLCs", plural. Only one, Shanghai, has ever been described.
Status table: shipped, stated, speculation
| Item | Status | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Bug-fix patches | Shipped and continuing | Builds 3672/3674, 1 Sep 2026. Same post commits to a second patch "soon" |
| FPS drop fix | Stated, undated | 1 Sep 2026: "coming in another patch very soon" |
| Further achievement fixes | Stated, undated | 1 Sep 2026: "a few more achievement fixes coming in the next patch" |
| Two free content updates | Stated, undated | 4 Dec 2025, restated in shape on 14 Aug 2026 |
| Shanghai DLC | Stated, undated, unpriced on Steam | 4 Dec 2025. No store page as of 8 Sep 2026 |
| Additional DLCs beyond the first | Vague | "eventually a couple DLCs", 14 Aug 2026. None named |
| Startup Company 2 | Separate game, dated | 4 Dec 2025: target of Steam Early Access, February 2027 |
| Multiplayer | Community speculation | Only ever mentioned as something modders attempted |
| Consoles, mobile | Ruled out in 2023 | 19 Aug 2023, not revisited since |
| Airports | Named once in 2023, never again | 19 Aug 2023 "long-term plans" list |
A rival guide site's roadmap breakdown files the Hamptons next to the Shanghai DLC, correctly noting that the developer gave neither a date nor a price — but grouping them invites the reading that the Hamptons is still pending. It is not. It shipped free inside 1.0 as the seventh neighbourhood, and the 14 August changelog describes it in the past tense along with the rest of the release. The distinction is narrower than it sounds but it matters: the Hamptons is not pending and is not a DLC, and the "around $10" figure attaches to Shanghai alone. See what 1.0 changed and the Hamptons page.
Post-1.0 patch cadence, the only real data
One patch has landed since the full release. That is a small sample, so the useful move is to set it against every previous release the studio has made.
| Release | Date | Days since previous release | First patch post after | Patch posts in first 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EA 0.1 | 10 Mar 2023 | n/a | 10 days | 2 |
| EA 0.2 | 29 May 2023 | 80 | 4 days | 2 |
| EA 0.3 | 30 Aug 2023 | 93 | 2 days | 2 |
| EA 0.4 | 13 Dec 2023 | 105 | 1 day | 2 |
| EA 0.5 | 18 Apr 2024 | 127 | 1 day | 3 |
| EA 0.6 | 17 Oct 2024 | 182 | 6 days | 3 |
| EA 0.7 | 17 Dec 2024 | 61 | 2 days | 4 |
| EA 0.8 | 12 May 2025 | 146 | 9 days | 2 |
| EA 0.9 | 30 Sep 2025 | 141 | 7 days | 1 |
| EA 0.10 | 11 Mar 2026 | 162 | 2 days | 4 |
| EA 0.11 | 18 Jun 2026 | 99 | 1 day | 4 |
| 1.0 | 28 Aug 2026 | 71 | 4 days | 1 so far |
Counted from the developer's own announcement feed on 8 September 2026. Major live releases only; experimental-branch preview builds are excluded, because they ship to an opt-in branch and are not what most players receive.
The pattern is consistent. A first patch has followed every major release within ten days, usually within a week, and two to four patch posts have followed within the first month. Builds 3672/3674 at four days sit squarely inside that band, and the same post says "we'll have a second patch ready for you soon". On the historical shape, a second post-1.0 patch inside September 2026 would be normal rather than notable. That is a base rate, not a promise, and the developer has given no date for it.
Three specific fixes are outstanding by the studio's own admission, all from the 1 September post: FPS drops and choppy gameplay, further achievement fixes, and the general bug backlog. Achievement descriptions in particular may still change, which is why the achievements page records its capture date.
The roadmap is deliberately dateless, and that is documented
Anyone treating bigambitionsgame.com/roadmap as a schedule is reading it against the developer's stated intent. The roadmap's own history says so.
| Date | What happened to the roadmap |
|---|---|
| 10 Mar 2023 | Early Access launches with a public roadmap; the store page estimates 8 to 12 months in Early Access |
| 19 Aug 2023 | Public roadmap removed. "We'll no longer be presenting a long list of promised features" |
| 19 Mar 2024 | Returns as a "Living Roadmap". "The features presented are not promises." Dates deliberately omitted |
| 28 Dec 2024 | "Full Release" added to the roadmap; studio plans "at least another 12 months" of Early Access |
| 4 Dec 2025 | Roadmap updated again; first DLC changed from Costa Del Sol to Shanghai |
The 19 March 2024 post is explicit on both counts: the roadmap will evolve, features may be removed if they turn out unsuitable, and "You'll notice the roadmap doesn't include any dates. This is intentional." The Costa Del Sol to Shanghai switch is the proof that this is real rather than boilerplate. An entire announced DLC setting was replaced before a single screenshot of it appeared.
Track record: what the studio predicted against what happened
This is the part no other Big Ambitions site has assembled, and it is the only honest way to weight an undated roadmap item.
| Prediction | Stated | What was said | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Access length | 10 Mar 2023 | Store page said 8 to 12 months | 1,267 days, about 41.6 months. Roughly 3.5x the top estimate |
| Time to full release | 28 Dec 2024 | "at least another 12 months" of Early Access | 20 months |
| 1.0 date | 4 Dec 2025 | "We hope to hit that in August next year", with the caveat "quality comes first, and we might push it further if needed" | 1.0 shipped 28 August 2026. Hit |
| Update spacing | Aug 2023, Mar 2024, Dec 2024 | Roughly every three months, about 90 days | Median 105 days between live releases, mean 115, range 61 to 182 |
| First DLC | 4 Dec 2025 | Shanghai, around $10 | Not released as of 8 September 2026 |
The reading is not that the developer misses everything. The single time a concrete month was named for 1.0, it was hit. The reading is that the further out a statement sits, the looser it gets: a three-year overshoot on the original Early Access estimate, a consistent overshoot on the three-month update rhythm, and an on-target call made nine months ahead. Undated items with no visible build attached, which is every post-1.0 item, are at the loose end of that scale.
What Shanghai is described as, and what it is not
Everything publicly known about the first DLC comes from four sentences in the 4 December 2025 post. It is set in Shanghai, China. It is pitched around the rival Huang Guo, whose territory in the base game is Midtown, and the post frames it as visiting "his hometown". It is described as "a beefy one (around $10)". The stated design reason is that "Shanghai City is visually very different from New York and so is the way business is done".
That is the complete first-party record. There is no feature list, no business types, no map, no screenshots, no store page, and no window. Anything more detailed circulating online is invention. New cities were named as a long-term ambition as far back as 19 August 2023, alongside production factories, modding support and sailable boats, so the direction is old even if the destination changed.
Of that 2023 wish list, factories arrived in EA 0.6, mod support in EA 0.11, and boats exist in the shipped game with two separate Steam achievement groups tracking how many you own and how much your most expensive one is worth. Airports were named once in that same post and have not appeared in any of the 99 announcements since. Treat airports as abandoned unless the developer says otherwise.
A second development track: Startup Company 2
The 4 December 2025 post also announced early development on Startup Company 2, a sequel to the studio's earlier game, with a stated target of Steam Early Access in February 2027. It is described as running "side by side with Big Ambitions, as an additional development track", with the team expanding to avoid slowing Big Ambitions down.
This belongs on a Big Ambitions roadmap page for one reason. It is the only disclosed claim on the same studio's time during the exact window in which the two free content updates and the Shanghai DLC are supposed to land. The studio says it has hired against it. Whether that holds is the thing to watch through late 2026.
The same post gives the sales context: Big Ambitions had passed 600,000 copies by December 2025, up from 500,000 in December 2024 and 300,000 in August 2023, and the studio's lifetime Steam sales across both titles reached 1.1 million. That headline figure of 1.1 million is the combined studio number across both games, not a Big Ambitions-only total.
How to read any roadmap claim you see
- If it has a date, check whose date it is. The developer has given exactly one release date for anything post-1.0, and that date is for Startup Company 2, a different game.
- Shipped is not the same as pending. The Hamptons, private drivers, Speedy Bites, the Pricing Manager and the three minigames are all in the game now, not on the roadmap. The Early Access versus 1.0 comparison shows which version each feature actually arrived in.
- Mod-adjacent claims are not roadmap claims. Multiplayer appears in the official record only as a description of what modders were attempting before official Workshop support landed. See mods.
- Old statements age. The console and mobile refusal is from August 2023, when the studio had four staff and 300,000 sales. It is the last known position and nothing more.
Change log
- 8 September 2026: Page created. Post-1.0 cadence built from the developer's full announcement feed, all twelve live-release intervals computed, roadmap history traced from its 2023 removal to the December 2025 Shanghai switch, and the Hamptons removed from pending-item status because it shipped inside 1.0.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Big Ambitions roadmap after 1.0?
Yes, but it carries no dates. Hovgaard Games has stated three things for after the 28 August 2026 full release: continued bug-fix patches, two free content updates, and a first paid DLC set in Shanghai. The two content updates were promised in the studio post of 4 December 2025, and the 14 August 2026 changelog restated the sequence as several months of updates followed by the first DLC. No release window has been given for any of them.
When is the Big Ambitions Shanghai DLC out?
No date has been announced. The Shanghai DLC was first described on 4 December 2025, when the studio said it had switched its first DLC concept away from Costa Del Sol. On 14 August 2026 the developer wrote that a few more updates would come over the next several months and the first DLC would follow after that, which is a sequence rather than a schedule. Anyone quoting a Shanghai release date is guessing.
How much will the Big Ambitions DLC cost?
The only figure the developer has given is 'around $10', written on 4 December 2025 in the same sentence that described the Shanghai DLC as a beefy one. That was an intention stated more than eight months before 1.0 even shipped, not a store listing, and the DLC has no Steam page yet. The two additional content updates named in that post were described as free.
Is multiplayer coming to Big Ambitions?
Nothing in the official announcements commits to it. The single mention across the studio's Steam posts is in the EA 0.11 mod support notes of June 2026, which observe that players had already attempted mods 'ranging from multiplayer to analytic tools'. That describes community projects, not a studio feature. Big Ambitions is listed as single-player on its Steam store page.
Is Big Ambitions coming to consoles or mobile?
The developer ruled both out in the studio post of 19 August 2023, in the words 'Consoles? Not in the cards. Mobile? We'll hard pass.' That statement is three years old and predates the game's growth, so treat it as the last known position rather than a current one. It has not been revisited in any announcement since, and Steam lists Windows and macOS only.
How often does Big Ambitions get updates?
Across Early Access the studio repeatedly aimed for a major update roughly every three months. The twelve live releases from EA 0.1 to 1.0 actually landed a median of 105 days apart, with a range from 61 to 182 days. Small bug-fix builds arrive much faster: the first patch after a major release has come within one to ten days every single time, and after 1.0 it took four.
